Research Activities

Workpackages

The core research activities of SECURE were focused within five main workpackages.

However, there were four main scientific aims to SECURE:

1. To develop a mechanistic model of the life cycle of L. maculans on oilseed rape, estimate values of parameters for 5 stages in the life cycle, and validate them with existing and new data.

2. To study molecular mechanisms responsible for the generation of new virulent races of L. maculans, and compare fitness of virulent/avirulent strains in controlled environment and field experiments.

3. To analyse effects of host genetic background/environment on durability of major gene resistance in field/controlled environment experiments.

4. To develop a model for the deployment of resistance to maximise durability of resistance and deliver recommendations for deployment of resistance.

These corresponded to the four main science workpackages which formed the basic structure of the project. A fifth workpage detailed how the project would be managed and how results were disseminated to growers/ advisors, the scientific community, other interested target groups and the general public.
